Great question!  To begin, we absolutely believe that the impact on your classroom is worth far more than the couple of bucks we charge.  Try our free ones and see for yourself! 

Second, we are full-time classroom teachers who do this on the side and would love to get these ideas into as the hands of as many teachers as possible, but that costs money.  Whether it be for registering at conferences and speaking about Interest Igniters or developing and marketing our website online, there are costs involved.   We have invested a lot of time, energy, and money in developing and sharing our ideas and simply hope to recoup some of our cost (well over $1000 spent so far).  We appreciate the validation that comes with people supporting our ideas.

You sure can...some of our favorite Interest Igniters came from just observing what students like to do and creating an Interest Igniter that allows them to do it!  Feel free to use this approach with your own ideas.  We offer ours for sale to save you the time and effort needed to create them yourself. Also, each one we offer has already been vetted in classrooms and proven to be engaging for students. For a couple of bucks you save about 30 minutes of time - we think that's a smart trade-off for busy teachers (but maybe we are a bit biased)!

Interest Igniters are extremely versatile and can be used with any subject and any curriculum.  They give students purpose so you can use them to motivate students academically or behaviorally.  The only limit is your imagination!  Please click here to see the variety of ways we see Interest Igniters being used in a classroom.

This is an important item to clarify.  Any chances earned to play the Interest Igniter challenge are entire classroom chances.  They are not earned for specific students. We understand not all students are comfortable getting up in front of their peers so we don't want kids to intentionally "fail" to save embarrassment.  We ALWAYS allow participation by choice and use volunteers.  This creates the "classroom playing as a team" mindset that builds a unified classroom community where they are all pulling for each other.

You will receive a slide deck that consists of instructional pages and a student page that you show to students to drum up excitement for the challenge ahead!  There is nothing for you to do but read the implementation steps to understand the game, show the Student Slide, and watch your classroom awaken!
